Extraction Including Wisdom Teeth
There are many reasons you may need one or more teeth removed. Be assured that Dr. Blumberg and your other dental and medical specialists will always take in to account your overall health and well-being before recommending any extractions or any other surgical procedures for you.
Millions of years ago when we lived in caves and ate raw food, we needed more teeth to chew with and our jaws were much longer to accommodate them. As our diets evolved, our jaws grew shorter and the wisdom teeth started to disappear. Although most of us still have four of them, some people only have three or two, rarely some people have none. Eventually no one will have them as they are unnecessary. However, that will take a long time. In the meanwhile, most of us do not have enough room in our jaws for them and they become impacted or trapped below the gum and bone. They can cause infection, pain, swelling, damage the adjacent teeth and even cause more aggressive cysts or tumors in the jaw to form that can be very serious and destructive to the surrounding bone and teeth. That is why Dr. Blumberg will consult with you individually to evaluate your jaws and determine whether or not your wisdom teeth need to be removed. Again, this can be done for you under light general anesthesia in our state-of-the-art surgery center suites.
Dr. Blumberg has over 30 years’ experience in caring for patients in a safe and comfortable environment. From the time you enter our waiting room with our beautiful tropical reef fish tank you will be greeted by our friendly and courteous staff. Everyone will do the very best to make sure you are seen by the doctor promptly. However, please understand that the nature of our specialty is that we deal with emergency situations where patients may need immediate attention for injuries or serious oral-facial infections. This may cause us to run behind sometimes. We would ask your patience and understanding as this may have been you at another time. If need be we can always reappoint you for another time if you need to leave for some reason.
